Welcome to my TIE conference presentation page. The following online tools are free, or are available in free versions with pay for premium services. They are meant to replace the need to purchase expensive applications or productivity suites to accomplish average everyday tasks. This list is neither authoritative nor exhaustive, merely a representative sampling of available options.


File Backup, Sharing, and Conversion


Office Suites - Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Presentations

  • Google Docs & Spreadsheets: allows you to create documents and spreadsheets from scratch or upload your own files. Documents can be shared with others, edited by multiple contributors at the same time, and exported to different formats. Documents can also be shared as web pages or viewed only by a limited set of people. http://docs.google.com/
  • Zoho Office Suite: includes Zoho Writer for word processing, Zoho Sheet for spreadsheets, Zoho Show for presentations, Zoho Creator for databases, and more. All include a free version, while some also have additional for pay features. http://zoho.com/
  • ThinkFree: Includes ThinkFree Write for word processing, ThinkFree Calc for spreadsheets, and ThinkFreeShow for presentations. Up to 1 GB of storage space provides collaboration tools, publishing to blogs, web pages or Doc Exchange, and PDF creation. http://product.thinkfree.com/online/overview.html
  • Peepel is a collaborative online office suite that includes: allows two or more users to work on a document together, share your files with other users, choose who to share files with and see who has shared files with you, word processor, spreadsheet, document templates that have standard parts already completed, such as letters, are now available as Templates. http://peepel.com/signup.php

  • MindMeister supports all the standard features of a classic mind mapping tool - only online, and with simultaneous users. http://www.mindmeister.com/
  • Wridea can be used for collaborative brainstorming sessions, organize ideas, and create categories and pages. Wridea can also be used as a basic project management tool.

Collaboration and Conferencing

  • Vyew.com provides live conferencing with desktop sharing, screen capture, integrated text, with integrated PowerPoint-like authoring. Collaborate on all common file types. Sessions can be streamed live, or captured for later playback. http://vyew.com/content/Home
  • Dimdim is an Open Source web conferencing company. With Dimdim you can show Presentations, Applications and Desktops to any other person over the internet. You can chat, show your webcam and talk with others in the meeting. Presenter software is Windows only. http://www.dimdim.com/
  • FlashMeeting is a simple meeting tool that supports video and audio broadcasts, text chat, shared whiteboard, recording for archiving and later viewing, and secure and private meetings. http://flashmeeting.open.ac.uk/

Great Job. You have provided valuable access to FREE sites. I have a bit of work to do if I’m going to pass this on to my teachers.

Thanks for the heads up on Net Neutrality, I was in the dark. My Wyoming senators need some prodding. The one who was against the legislation has passed away, so we’ll have to work on the other one and the replacement.
