Beliefs

How it all started:

Sabina was a new student in my classroom in October of 1995. Not sure of her background or how to connect, basically I panicked. I search on the Internet and found the Sarajevo Pipeline, a place where those displaced by the war could reconnect. In days I was overwhelmed by the responses I received, from offers of translation to help in understanding the psychology of a refugee to web resources of sound files of the Serbo-Croatian language. So I started by teaching the rest of the class Sabina’s language. The experience taught me that the Internet isn’t just a collection of web pages, it is a connecting place for people, a way to remove barriers.

Why it is significant:
In 1983, A Nation At Risk: The Imperative For Educational Reform was published, challenging America to reinvent our nation’s educational system in the face of declining academic performance. In 2006, a presentation was made to the teachers of Arapahoe High School in Littleton Colorado. “Did You Know” challenges us once again to reinvent our nation’s educational system in the face of global changes and the impact technology has on our lives.

Did you know?

What is it?

It is a place where we search

It is a source of entertainment

A place to entertain

It keeps us current

A place we decide what is current

A place for links

A place for my own space

A place for community

A place for understanding

A place to find our voice

A place to reflect

A place that reflects us

What should it look like as a place of learning?
