That’s a Lot of Texts March 3, 2008

By way of SmartMobs, it looks like texters in 2008 will be averaging about 2 texts per person per day. Add that up (3 billion mobile subscribers) and you get about 2 trillion text messages this year. I’m sure that my own kids are above average in this respect, but still, 2 trillion messages is a lot of reading and writing.

Yeah well no one comments on how many emails are sent…… Why be mean to texters??
Caitlin,
No disparaging of texters is intended. I can’t find any reliable published statistics for the number of emails sent each day, but if this article is to be believed (and it cites numbers from 2006) the number of emails could easily be over 22 trillion, or roughly 10 times the number of texts. Most of that is spam, but I’ll bet there are more emails sent every day than texts even after removing the numbers for spam. I’m just amazed at the amount of reading and writing everyone is doing!
