Social Tracking Old-School December 2, 2007

I opened a library book this morning only to find the old library due-date card on the inside cover pocket. I remember being fascinated as a child looking at the names and dates listed on these cards. Each card was a record of who had checked the book out and when. I felt connected to these people. Somehow I was contributing to a legacy tied to the physical volume of a book. Now we worry more about someone finding out what we’ve checked out and invading our privacy.

I have thought about this too! Wouldn’t it be interesting to meet the others who had checked out the book and see what they are like? What their lives are like? Have a book discussion.
